I used to go to Houston all the time because my grandmother, my aunt, and several cousins all lived there. However, Houston is a huge and diverse city, so I enjoy any chance I get to see more of it. Which is what the TGS Houston trip allowed me to do. I though Project Row Houses was fascinating and really cool. I did learn some about how one can be an artists and help the community. And of course the idea of message though art. My favorite exhibits were Sugarland and Gentes de Maize which were about sugar production and corn respectively. I though these two exhibits had very strong points about food and consumption. As to the Ensemble theater, I really enjoyed our visit there. I want to go home and watch Blues in the Night because it seemed like a really interesting show and a different take on things. Plus the music and the set were amazing.
As to my personal thoughts, this trip really made me want to go back to Houston because we used to go all the time but we stopped going so often after my grandmother died. I have very little memory of many places in Houston and I would like to refresh my memories of those places. However I found Hard Rock Cafe to be very silly and very loud which made conversation difficult. And it was very much a consumer culture about it which I did not appreciate. But other than that I enjoyed it.

Trip to Austin
On saterday we went to Austin, while in Austin we went to a muesume called The Blanton, we went to the stevie ray vaughn statue and we went to threadgills for live music. The importance of these activities is that Austin is thriving right now and is a very diverse city, both things a urban leader is trying to achive. Before the blanton, we talked with Dr. Slattery about the creative class and book dicussing the importance of this class. The creative class are all the people who live in a city who are musicians, artists, gay or work in the technology sector. It is these people who create ideas and really make a city move foward, and Austin has a great creative class. In fact on this book it is the second city in this top ten creative class list.
As to my experence is Austin, I am from austin so there wasn't a lot of new things for me. However, I love Austin and The Blanton is a great museum which I always enjoy going to. In fact I plan to go on my return to Austin to look at their new traveling exibit which will give perspective on their permanent exibits. I enjoyed the music but I do see a lot of live music. The hightlight, however was my parents coming to see me while we were at threadgills.

In these first seven days at governors school I feel like I have been on a emotional roller coster already. I can only wonder where these next twelve days will take me. I am very excited for my classes but if it is as exusthuing as this then I am glad it is only two more weeks. In my classes we have already started getting into some very intresting topics, I am perticuallary enjoying theator class because it's something very diffrent for me and it is making me consiter trying out for a play at school in the fall. The visual arts class has all been an intresting experence. The activites are simularlly fun.
